I just had an idea about setting rules with the kids next week:
What about creating five balloon cut outs that have either a picture that represents the rule, or the word itself. We can have the kids hang them somewhere in the classroom for our group??
The rules could have to do with the social skills we want them to use while we play together:
Please/thank you
Sharing
Taking Turns/Asking permission
Helping each other
Listening

I like that idea, I'm just wondering if we should put the balloons on a poster instead of hanging them in their classroom. I suppose we can always ask Jess and see what she thinks, I just remember they had a lot of things already hanging up in their room, and since our rules won't necessarily apply to all the other days, or to the morning preschool class, it might be better to just bring them with us when we come and set them in the front of the room.
Also, in regards to what the rules are- I'm wondering if it's fair to set all 5 of those rules up from the beginning, before we even teach them how to do all 5 things. Does that make sense? Instead maybe we could just start with 1 rule, and then add on another one each week as we teach them another skill? Although they are pretty basic things, so maybe this isn't necessary?
Another idea I thought of today was in regards to rewards- if we want to stick with the carnival theme, I was thinking maybe each week we could give out "tickets" for good behavior. So every time they use please/thank-you appropriately, or exhibit good listening skills, etc. we could give them a ticket, and then either at the end of the day, or at the conclusion of all 7 weeks, we could total up all of their tickets and have them turn them in for prizes? Just an idea...
